Faced with labor shortages and increased employee turnover, finding places to increase efficiency is top of mind in many areas of the food industry. In a food processing laboratory or a contract lab, seeking testing solutions that deliver simplicity, speed and accuracy is one way to help relieve some of the pressure. Over the last few decades, next-generation microbiological methods for quality indicator organisms and pathogens have been developed to simplify food testing.  

In this session, you’ll learn about the technological advancements that drive testing efficiency and productivity without compromising accuracy and reliability.  The speaker will also discuss total solutions encompassing test methods, data collection and data analyses for supporting food testing laboratories. 

Implementing a Risk-Based Approach to Food Safety

A common challenge faced in the global food industry is how to adopt a truly risk-based approach to food safety management that meets the expectations of regulators, private schemes/standards and customers. Efficient risk-based food safety management systems shift the focus from finish product testing to identification of hazards and risk areas along the food chain. This shift enables control of microbial contamination by applying proper validation, monitoring and verification activities.  Utilizing industry-accepted tools and a proactive risk-based mindset can enable food processors to maximize their food safety resources, help ensure food safety and minimize potential unintended consequences.    

In this session, we’ll review key elements of a risk-based food safety system and how to effectively and efficiently manage sampling and testing.
